Rice is removed from the sheaves by beating it against rocks and concrete blocks. Rice is the staple food for the 147 million people that make up the population of Bangladesh. Most Bangladeshis obtain more than 70 % of their caloric intake from rice, and the per capita rice consumption in Bangladesh is higher than in any other country.
